After a gastronomic journey of 35 years Samco, which has become part of Doha residents’ way of life for pioneering mouth-watering grilled sandwiches in the city, has changed its face and the public can now experience its latest offerings as it opened its doors after a total refurbishment yesterday.

Now called Doha Rocks!, the café lounge under Gulf Star Group, was inaugurated yesterday in the presence of a large crowd.

Samco has undergone a complete makeover in keeping with the fast moving and rocking Doha, hence its new name. Doha Rocks! brings more to the table than before, while retaining all the ingredients that made it a household name in the country.

Located just minutes away from the Doha International Airport, the lounge has an amazing fun, casual and modern vibe with trendy, comfortable interiors — all designed by Gulf Star Designs & Interiors — and original murals on the wall depicting old and present-day Doha.

Doha Rocks! offers an amazing array of juices and beverages, including live charcoal Grill and Tandoor station and the breakfast, lunch and dinner menus, and regular signature sandwiches. Celebrity chef to Bollywood star Sridevi is the expert behind the Grill and Tandoor offering.

Treats from the sandwich, tandoor, pastry, and juice and beverage corner are available 24/7 and the continental breakfast is served between 6.30 and 9.30 in the morning. Lunch comprises the authentic charcoal Dum biryani, which originated from ancient Persia, with variations of lamb, chicken, fish or vegetable served between 11.30am and 3.30pm only.

Doha Rocks! employs state-of-the-art technology in its kitchens and the live-tandoor station, is wi-fi enabled and also the first café lounge to offer an online service for deliveries in Doha. Orders can be placed online at www.doharockscafe.com, by giving a landline number the customer will receive a call confirming the order which will then be delivered to the stated address.

Every morning at 6.30 the management will choose two customers as Doha Rockers of the day based on a quirky factor that changes every day.

The names of all the Doha Rockers go onto the Board from which the Doha Rockers of the month will be selected to win prizes such as the latest gizmo, prized tickets to a football match or a dream trip to Dubai.

Naveed Abdulla, Business Director of Gulf Star Group and the brains behind the Doha Rocks venture already has plans to open a second outlet in Al Wakrah in August and a third outlet before the end of the year. He has intentions of taking the brand regional shortly thereafter.
